"A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump" Galatians 5:9
A baker baking a bread always adds little yeast in comparison to the size of pastries been mixed. This stresses the effect of the yeast. In time past, leaven refers to yeast and the 'whole lump' is pastry.
Galatians 5:9 is metaphorically expounding the relationship of sin and a christian. The Holy Bible calls true Heaven bound Christian "lump" and the "leaven" is sin. However, true christians should be unleaven. With that understand, Galatians 5:9 is telling us A little sin destroys the whole soul. This emphasises on the potential of just a little sin.
The caution against any scale - big or small - sin is also stressed in I Corinthians 5:6-8 "Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth"
Just a little lying, a petty stealing, one time fornication/adultery, an extortion due to desperate need, or jealousy/envy. Whichever sin, no matter the size, it can destroy our white garment of righteousness. We need to remember God is of a purer eyes to behold iniquity. For this reason He sent Jesus Christ to die for us so we won't go to hell. Any sinner found in hell is guilty of not accepting the way out God provided.
Remember: An atom of sin has the potential of sending anyone to eternal damnation- Hell
